Volunteering with Seniors

Are you interested or curious about the stories and live of Older Adults? Are you curious about how you can make a difference in the lives of people at risk of social isolation? CCIS Host Program Volunteers Needed

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society is in need of volunteers for the Host Program. The Host Program helps newcomers integrate and resettle in Canada. Many of these newcomers are government assisted refugees and others are independent migrants. Host volunteers lend support, help with language barriers and introduce newcomers to their new community.

The Host Program recruits and trains volunteer hosts and then establishes compatible matches between them and new immigrants of all ages. The matches are based on criteria such as similar interests, family size, age and profession. Anyone can volunteer as long as they are at least 17 years of age and can commit to volunteering for 3 -4 hours a week divided to suit the volunteer and needs of the family. Volunteer Cultural Interpreters and Translators Needed

Immigrant Services Calgary is looking for volunteers to fill the positions of ‘Cultural Interpreter’ and ‘Cultural Translator’. These volunteers will assist newcomers to Canada with their transition to a new life by either providing assistance with the verbal exchange of words form one language to another or by translating important written legal documents. Volunteers must be fluent in English and at least one other language and must be culturally sensitive. Some daytime availability is required for the position of Cultural Interpreter and Cultural Translators must have intermediate level computer skills. Contact: Volunteer Coordinator at 403-538-8355.
