Canada Immigration Trends in 2024
Canada’s population surpasses 41 million in the first quarter of 2024 to reach 41,012,563 on April 1, 2024. This milestone was reached less than one year after Statistics Canada announced that the population hit the 40 million mark, on June 16, 2023.

ESL PROGRAM DIRECTORY
Would you like to improve your English and make new friends? Many Calgary churches offer ESL classes and conversation groups free of charge, or for a nominal fee. Classes are available in every part of the city and are open to everyone.
Cooperative ESL Ministries does not operate ESL classes. We provide this directory for ESL Programs around Calgary and surrounding areas. If you have questions about a particular class, please contact the church directly.
Start an ESL Program
So you want to start an ESL program in your church. Where do you start? Here are a few things to think about and ways Cooperative ESL Ministries can help:
IS YOUR CHURCH PREPARED?
Starting an ESL program in your church requires the entire congregation’s support and involvement. Newcomers (immigrants, refugees, temporary foreign workers, international students, etc.) can go to an ESL class and learn English, but to feel a sense of community, a church congregation must be willing to welcome and embrace ESL students.
HOW WILL YOUR CHURCH REACH NEWCOMERS?
Once you have trained an ESL teacher and prepared your congregation to welcome newcomers, you also need to spread the word about your ESL program. Consider putting an ad in your church’s local neighbourhood newspaper. If your church has a website, add information on your ESL program to the site.
INVEST IN COOPERATIVE ESL MINISTRIES
Your investment will help support Cooperative ESL Ministries’ mission to empower churches to reach out in love to the immigrants and internationals in our communities.
